The Team
We’ve known each other for near enough 10 years since we met at Warwick University. You may wonder whether we’ll cope with each other’s whingeing and verbal abuse on this two-week tour of pain, but having travelled the West Coast of the USA back in 2008, a number of skiing holidays and other weekends away we probably know each other a little too intimately...

Ray Pang"Hello. You probably either don't know me, or know me through school, university or work. If not, you're in a very select few. Good for you! In my adulthood, I'd always rather hated cycling and cyclists. This probably wasn't helped by my crappy 10-tonne £100 Apollo (read Halfords) bike at uni, and my general love of cars and driving. However, inspection of a photo from the aforementioned trip to the States revealed a lack of exercise and an excess of flab. Since then, I've been cycling the daily six-mile commute, and grown into a bit of a cycling nut. My favourite Google Product Search terms are currently Lycra, Dura Ace and carbon!" |

Gerald Knights"Let me introduce myself. Most people know me as Gerald, a generous, happy, jovial and rotund fellow who has never really amounted to much in the sporting field.... unless of course you count playing pool or watching sport; at which I could give most people a run for their money. My general fitness levels have always tended to let me down, apart from on the dance floor after 5 pints in a pub or night club (I’m not fussy) or on the last day of a ski holiday when I always seem to achieve superhuman levels of energy. I’ve recently taken to the saddle after at least 12 years away, and even then I would hardly count my childhood riding as anything other than a mere inconvenience. It has all of a sudden become a real passion of mine, and I hope that this will long continue. Anyway, don’t want to bore you any more so vital statistics below." |

Kumaran Navaratnarajah (Nav)"Well boys and girls, as you’ve probably guessed most people tend to call me Nav these days. I’m not really sure why. If you didn’t already know, I quite enjoy my sport. Sadly the man upstairs didn’t bless me with any innate ability. I do have quite a bit of self confidence on the football field – which does bear me in good stead for the abuse I receive from friends and colleagues. Nevertheless I still hold out faint hope for that call up to help Sri Lanka with the World cup 2014 qualifying campaign. "Cycling is something I’ve been interested in for many years – particularly watching the Tour de France on television. It is also something that I’m built for given my slight 5ft 7in frame. There was a little bit of cycling during my University days, but my mountain bike was never really built to cover large distances on the road in spite of the slick tyres I put on it. I finally managed to persuade a couple of idiots stupid enough to take this challenge on so it has been my excuse to treat myself to a new bike. Now that I’ve got all the kit (especially the bib shorts) I really do have to keep it going…. |
