The Bikes

Ray's bike - Pinarello F4:13 2009 carbon road bike

Bought from a man in Bacup, this is Ray's chosen set of wheels for the journey, and the dry-weather commute when he's feeling a bit lazy. A few mods have been made to make it fit better a bit lighter (and therefore better), and is his new favourite toy. Thieves of London, hands off this one please.

  • Pinarello F4:13 30HM12K-carbon frameset
  • Pinarello Onda carbon forks
  • MOst Duel wheels fitted with Schwalbe Stelvio 700x23c tyres
  • Campagnolo Chorus 10 speed rear mech
  • Truvativ GXP Carbon crank set
  • Campagnolo Centaur brakes
  • Sella Italia Titanium saddle (this may well change before Ray tackles 1000 miles on it!)
  • MOst Lion air 1K-carbon anatomic handlebars
  • MOst Tigermax 3K-carbon 140mm stem
  • Campagnolo Chorus carbon levers
  • Look 337 (Pinarello branded) pedals
  • Blackburn Neuro 5.0 bike computer

Sadly, Ray has had to succumb to practicality over style, so it will be equipped with:

  • Old Man Mountain Cold Springs rear rack
  • Ortlieb waterproof pannier bags

Nav's bike – Trek Pilot 2.1 2010 road bike

Unlike Ray the urge to be a poser wasn’t quite so overwhelming and so I thought a little more practically as to what sort of bike would suit me - both for this journey and post-LEJOG leisurely day rides. Whilst I would love to have a carbon bike, I suspect I’ll benefit from the more relaxed geometry of the Pilot 2.1 for the 14 days of our trip. Plus it allows me to get that fix of road racing should I feel the urge to be Lance Armstrong.

My bike was purchased from Red Kite Cycles in Shirley, West Midlands (though their after sales emergency puncture service and generosity leaves a lot to be desired).

Gerald's bike - Kinesis Racelight T2 Audax bike

I bought a bike, it was expensive, but looked the nuts, then i saw a bike i liked the look of better, but i’d already bought this one. Still though a fine choice; and if my company pulls there finger out and gets in the cycle to work scheme i may sell this one and buy the sexier one.

My bike was purchased from Ken Fosters Cycle Logic. Great service even after the numerous visits to sort out my gears... and broken gear levers. Eventually I have found a happy medium through some online learning and they’ve worked great since. I don’t profess to be an expert on bicycles so below are the parts to the best of my knowledge, so for those purists out there apologies for any errors.
